Honolulu high temperature ties record for 5th time this month

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - If you thought it was hot in Honolulu Saturday, the thermometer is backing you up.

According to the National Weather Service, Saturday's high in Honolulu was 90 degrees, tying the record set for the date in 1981.

Saturday was the fifth time this month that the high temperature tied a record in Honolulu. Four of those times, the high hit 90 degrees.

Daytime temperatures will reach the upper 80's for the next several days, but it will feel a lot warmer for the first part of the week as the trade winds will be backing off, starting Sunday. The light winds will allow afternoon sea breezes to form clouds and perhaps a few showers for interior sections of the islands.

Trade winds are not expected to strengthen again until the second half of the week. Forecast models also show increasing tropical moisture reaching the state, and especially the Big Island of Hawaii, during that time.
